FORMATS
MED / OctaMED — MMD0 · MMD1 · MMD2 · MMD3, and the old
MED 2/3/4 song formats. ProTracker — .mod, played by a cycle-faithful PT replayer. Others — XM · S3M · IT via the libopenmpt fallback.
Packed files (PowerPacker · XPK · LZO · ADPCM) unpack on load.
WHAT'S NEW
Pattern editor — ranges, clipboard, transpose, flood-fill
and mix-paste, with undo and in-place save. Canvas grid — the pattern view is drawn on canvas: smooth
scrolling on wide modules. Synth & hybrid — full waveform / volume sequencer,
verified against real OctaMED. HighLife — multi-zone sampler instruments.
Two-sound spectral effects analyse in mono, so the result is mono — replacing the region in place would fold this stereo sample down. Send it to a slot to keep the original.
Audio is uploaded to mvsep.com (Germany or Hong Kong) and deleted after 1–3 days; uploads are not used to train models. ⚠ MVSep has no Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers from the EEA or the UK.

The complete MED lineage: reunified, rebuilt, reborn
MED was created by Teijo Kinnunen in 1989 and grew
into OctaMED and MED SoundStudio;
RBF Software published it and carried the PC
releases to 2010. Mediante reimplements that lineage’s playback and
ships no MED code — every module, from the 1989 formats to the last
SoundStudio save, plays the way its author heard it.
It is not only a museum. On that foundation sit a pattern editor with
undo and in-place saving, HighLife sampler instruments, stem and
lossless export, faster-than-realtime rendering, and
Web Audio Module effect chains on the master
or any effects group — things MED never had, in files MED can still
open.
Mediante is by Philip Kaulfuss, developed in
collaboration with Claude (Anthropic).
libopenmpt — the OpenMPT team. Plays the non-MED formats, and its MMD loader cross-checked our parser.
pt2-clone — Olav Sørensen. Basis of the cycle-accurate ProTracker replayer.
discoDSP HighLife — the sampler MED SoundStudio embeds, originally written by John Argüelles Rius (Arguru). Our HighLife instrument playback is a port of its released source. This product includes software developed by discoDSP http://www.discodsp.com/ and contributors.
libFLAC — Xiph.Org Foundation. Lossless render and stem export.
Freeverb — Jezar at Dreampoint. The reverb behind MED's echo type 3.
Zerius Vocoder — Emanuel Borsboom, with FFT code by Steven Trainoff. The channel vocoder in the sample editor is a port of it. (No link: nuel.ca/Vocoder, where it was published, is gone.)
mikmod and mmd-convert — independent MED loaders, used to settle effect-command edge cases.
Web Audio Modules SDK — the WebAudioModules Working Group. The host and plugin base classes every effect here stands on, ours and other people’s alike.
The Web Audio Modules community — Wimmics and Sequencer Party, whose plugins fill the Effects picker’s Featured list. Their code is not shipped with Mediante; your browser fetches a plugin only when you choose one.
Topaz Unicode — Screwtape, ISC licence. The Amiga’s Kickstart 1.3 Topaz, extended to about a thousand characters; offered in Settings as a font. Topaz itself was designed for Commodore-Amiga.
